DEPUTIES: Attacker Meets Up With Shotgun During Home Invasion

Deputies say a man who forced his way into a home early Thursday morning was either shot or struck by a shotgun by a friend of the victim.

Tiwarda Perkins of Hamilton is charged with first degree burglary and assault by strangulation.

Lawmen were called to a home on Duggins Road in Hamilton around 12:45 Thursday morning.

They say when they arrived, they found Perkins lying in a yard with an injury to his head. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies say a friend of the victim either grazed Perkins with a gunshot or hit him with the 12-gauge shotgun as Perkins tried to strangle the victim inside the home. A shotgun round was fired inside the home. Deputies report Perkins then ran out and collapsed in a neighbor's yard.

Perkins was not seriously hurt. He was taken from the hospital to the Sheriff's Office for booking.

Lawmen say Perkins and the victim were once in a relationship but not at the time of this incident.
