DEPUTIES: Marine Charged With Breaking Into Home, Burning Door Molding

Deputies said a 24-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine broke into a home and then burned the molding around a window frame while people were inside the home.

Deputies in Onslow County said they received a 911 call early Sunday morning about a man breaking into a home on Fulcher Landing Road in Snead's Ferry.

The residents told deputies they told Mark Alkire to leave, but he stayed on the porch instead, using a lighter to set a the molding around the front door on fire.

Both residents of the home said they had never met the suspect.

Deputies said they arrived just before 3 a.m. on Sunday and arrested Alkire for first-degree arson in addition to breaking and entering, and injury to real property.

Investigators said alcohol may have been a factor in this case.

His bond was set at $75,000.
