A North Carolina mother is accused of having her 12-year-old son beat his older brother in order to " pray the gay away."
Mary Gowans of Whiteville in Columbus County is charged with misdemeanor child abuse.
She allegedly made her 15-year-old son strip down to his underwear and instructed his younger brother to strike him with a belt. Gowans denies these allegations, but did admit to beating her son in an effort to stop him from visiting a gay man's house, who she heard had molested him.
She claims she was just trying to protect her son and the older son hit the younger so she had the 12-year-old hit him back.
