A high school student is accused of murdering a fellow student, after deputies say the victim was dragged, hung up in the seat belt of his own vehicle.

Jamareus Mallory of Elizabeth City was arrested Sunday after deputies first got a call of a traffic accident on Lisa's way. There they found the victim, 17-year-old James Holley, Jr. unconscious outside of the driver's door.

Pasquotank County deputies say they learned Holley had been assaulted in his vehicle and was pushed out by Mallory. They say Mallory then started driving the vehicle, dragging Holley who was hung up in his seat belt on the outside of the vehicle.

Lawmen say after driving the vehicle for several hundred feet, Mallory crashed into a ditch and left. He was later arrested at his home and is being held without bond.

Both were students at Northeastern High School. A youth minister called on to help counsel grieving students said Mallory and Holley were friends.
