A woman suspected of ripping off the elderly people she was paid to care for is now behind bars.
Thirty-eight-year-old Sherrie Shackleford of Snow Hill is charged with 38 counts of forgery. Sheriff Lemmie Smith said Shackleford is accused of writing personal checks from the couple's checkbook to pay for her own personal expenses such as groceries.
She's charged with multiple counts of forgery, uttering forged instrument, obtaining property under false pretenses and identity theft.
Shackleford is jailed on a $150,000 bond.
