A Little League Baseball umpire is accused of running a clandestine marijuana and mushroom growing operation.
Newport police charged Charles Douthit as he was leaving his home in Gracelyn Park this morning. Inside they found an elaborate enclosure for growing marijuana plants indoors. That 6 foot by 6 foot enclosure stood 8 feet tall and was wired with lights, fans and timers.
They also seized several pot plants and illegal mushrooms, potting trays, watering supplies, growing containers, along with other lights and timers.
Police say Douthit moved into the rental home less than two months ago and began setting up the grow operation within weeks of moving in. Officers say the man's children and girlfriend were also there during the search, but were not charged.
