Beaufort County Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Fugitive

A traffic stop in Beaufort County led to the arrest of a fugitive wanted in Virginia.

Authorities say 31-year-old Christopher Rich of Winterville had a 6-inch fixed blade knife in a bag he was carrying when he was arrested on the campus of Beaufort Community College.

An investigator noticed a vehicle traveling east on John Small Avenue driving erratically and called in an inquiry on the Maryland registration plate and learned the tag was expired. The vehicle entered the BCC campus and parked. The investigator approached the driver in the parking lot to speak with him about the tag and that's when he discovered he was a fugitive. A search turned up the knife.

Rich was taken into custody and confined to the Beaufort County Detention center without bond awaiting extradition to Virginia.

Rich was wanted for possession of a sawed off shotgun by a felon.
