One of the hostages who survived a standoff at a Cary bank is suing the town's police department, saying they mistreated him after he was released by the would-be robber.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that Lee Everett sued last month, claiming he was victimized because he is black.
The 52-year-old Everett was one of the people in a Wachovia Bank branch in Cary last year when 19-year-old Devon Mitchell entered the building and claimed to have a gun.
Mitchell was shot and killed by police, who later discovered he was unarmed.
Everett says after he was released by Mitchell, he was thrown to the ground, handcuffed and dragged across a field by police.
Cary officials say the lawsuit is without merit.
