NEW INFO: Washington Police Chief Leaving

Another police chief in Eastern Carolina says he is leaving. Washington police chief Mick Reed's last day will be February 29th.

Reed has been Washington's chief since June 2007. Last April he was a finalist for a similar job in Wrightsville Beach. But City Manager Josh Kay says he hasn't heard if the chief is resigning for a position somewhere else.

Kay has not outlined a specific timeline for Reed's replacement. "We have some great people in our organization who can step up and continue to lead the police department," said Kay. "I will work diligently to find a leader who can continue to work with our community and can continue to provide a high level of public safety to our citizens and businesses."

I am amused by the comments I read here. Having lived in Beaufort County for 35 years I can say that I have never had a BAD encounter with anyone from the Sheriffs office, Washington PD or the Highway Patrol for that matter. I have been pulled, I have gotten tickets but I was in the wrong and deserved what I got. I was always treated with respect and professionalism. Probably because I was respectful to them. I suspect the ones on this site who have such negative opinions of local law enforcement are probably criminals or former leo who were unable to successfully perform the duties. Folks, grow up and move on!!!

I too have had encounters with local LEO's and never once have been treated with disrespect. You get what you give. I was taught at an early age to respect the law. I will continue to do so. It makes me wonder what kind of upbringing most that comment on this site had.

for c-had...Most of your comments are always bible quotes. I see you only use the bible when it is handy for you.

Actually, Frank, the Bible teaches us not to esteem one man above another. It also teaches us to expose corruption and godlessness both of which are prevalent in the BCSO.If you had actually read the Bible you would know that it was "the law" who crucified Christ so get it right because you sure have it twisted.

I'm not the one using the bible for my own purposes. I have found in my life the more you quote the bible the further you are from godliness. Truth hurts a little huh.

Are you kidding me? I use the Bible as a light to show folks in darkness such as yourself the way. ME:Hey I have the truth out here in the light! You:No I like this dark cave and I refuse to budge. YOUR LOSS.

How is it when a Police Chief resigns, everyone is brought into the subject. But.... When a former police chief of Aurora (Watta) is fired, noone is brought into it.. Hmmm... Bet I know who leaves all the negative comments but is scared to say their name.

I would venture to guess whoever left the comment maybe didn't know anyone or anything about Aurora but they feel they do know something about what's happening in Washington. Also noticed you didn't put your name? lol

The post by "Citizen" implies that there is "corruption" at the PD. If "Citizen" has actual knowledge of this corruption he, or she, should contact the SBI! Is "Citizen" just and unhappy employee or are we stating facts? Actually the average "Citizen" would never have any negative interaction with the PD unless they received traffic tickets. Now speaking on behalf of the drug dealers, armed robbers, red-light runners, wife or husband beaters, DUI offenders, worthless check passers, etc. I guess they would have a real negative opinion of Law Enforcement.

The SBI will not take citizen complaints. Its already been tried on another corrupt boco department.

I believe Chief Reed came here with the best of intentions and I wish him well. It is too bad that the PD is now internally even more out of control than it was when he walked in the door. Getting it under control was beyond his capabilities.

I would agree Chrismon is far from loyal and is most of the problem with the WPD. As for Fox and Sigman they are just his yes people. Reed did a great job for what he had to work with and that was very limited. Chrismon is running the PD in the ground and in my opinion is the reason Reed is leaving.

Is the Chief not under a 10 year contract? Sooooo, if so, who pays for the other five years? ooh wait, I know, WE ALL DO. Thanks city manager! So on top of the utility bill that I can't hardly pay, now you'll probably raise my taxes too...that's awesome...NOT

He RESIGNED therefore NO ONE will have to pay the remaining years of his contract. Now that's awesome.

I agree Amra, why was this run on the first page only one day when you run the 12th siege at even given opportunity. I would think the Chief would warrant more coverage that the siege. What are you trying to coverup?
