Bertie County Correctional Officer Arrested With Pot & Cell Phones

A state corrections officer has resigned after authorities found her with a pound of marijuana that she was trying to get inside the prison.

Omni Johnson is facing numerous charges, including felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, providing a phone or electronic device to an inmate and possession with intent to manufacturer, sell or deliver marijuana.

The Department of Correction says the 22-year-old woman reported for work Saturday morning at Bertie Correctional Institution and dropped what appeared to be a cell phone. A search of the woman found the pound of pot and three cell phones.

Johnson had been a corrections officer since August.
