NEW INFO: Employees Foil Bank Robbery Attempt

A man tried to rob a bank here in Eastern Carolina shortly after noon today, but quick thinking employees kept him locked out of the bank.

Fremont police say it happened at the Heritage Bank on Wilson Road around 12:10 p.m.

They say the man tried to get into the bank through the front door, which is always locked. Employees said the man pulled his hoodie up over his head as he tried to get in. Bank personnel immediately turned on an additional security system to keep the man out.

Police say it appears the man was armed as his right hand was always in his right pocket with what appeared to be a concealed semi-automatic pistol.

The attempted robber is a white man with sun glasses, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, a grey t-shirt and tennis shoes.

Police believe his vehicle is a late 90's or early 2000 silver Nissan Frontier pickup truck with an extended cab and a luggage rack on the cab.

Anyone with information should call the Fremont Police Department at (919) 242-5151 or Crime Stoppers (919) 735-2255.
