POLICE REPORT: Man Involved In Physical Confrontation During Deadly Hit & Run

A Greenville police report says Brandon Yaw was involved in a physical confrontation with another person when he ran over and killed a woman.

The 27 year old Yaw was arrested for felony hit and run causing serious injury or death in connection with Thursday's crash outside the Walmart on East 10th Street.

23-year-old Jessica Anderson died at the hospital from injuries received in the crash, according to police.

In the police report, which was released Tuesday, it says Anderson was in front of Yaw's vehicle when she was struck. It says at the time, Yaw "was having a physical confrontation with another person as he moved forward and struck the pedestrian."

The woman was hit by the right side front and rear tires, according to the report. Police said the vehicle and Yaw were located two hours later.

During his first appearance Monday morning, Yaw said Anderson was his fiancee and asked the judge to reduce his bond so he could attend her funeral. Instead, the judge doubled the man's bond to $50,000.

While Yaw told the judge the woman was his fiancee, her family tells us the two were just friends.

The judge increased Yaw's bond to $50,000. If convicted, he could receive up to 62 months in prison.

Yaw has a prior hit and run conviction in July 2008. His record also lists convictions for felony breaking and entering, possessing stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretenses, larceny and DWI.

Officials say Yaw is in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond. The woman hit, 23-year-old Jessica Anderson, died at the hospital from injuries sustained during the incident, according to Police.

Police initially arrested Yaw in Grimesland a short time after the hit and run in Greenville on unrelated warrants. According to online information, Yaw was convicted of a previous hit and run in July 2008.

His record also lists convictions for felony breaking and entering, possessing stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretenses, larceny and DWI.
