Second Attempted Murder And Assault Suspect Behind Bars After Greenville Traffic Stop

Greenville police say a traffic stop Saturday night netted them a second suspect in an attempted murder and assault.

Javez Simpson, age 26 of Greenville, was arrested on South Memorial Drive near Moore Street.

Police say they pulled Simpson over because of stop sign violation.

Officers discovered there were active warrants for Simpson for the assault and attempted murder of Gregory Taylor on May 4.

Police said Taylor was found on May 4, lying unconscious in a vacant lot on Myrtle Avenue. They say the 53-year-old Taylor is a known drug offender, and the attack possibly followed an argument about the use of crack cocaine.

Wesley Davis was arrested Thursday in the attack and also charged with attempted first degree murder and assault inflicting seriously bodily injury.

Police say additional arrests may be possible.

Simpson is locked up in the Pitt County Detention Center under a nearly $1 million bond.

He is also charged with driving with a revoked license and failure to stop for a stop sign.
