One man is now behind bars, another is in the hospital after a shooting outside a mini-mart in Atlantic Beach Friday night.
Police say officers were dispatched to the Island Cove Mini-mart located at the corner of West Fort Macon and Lee Street around 7 p.m. Friday. They say while officers were gathering information from people inside the store they heard gunshots coming from outside the store.
Officers say Danny Haas got into an argument with James Purser IV. They say Haas ended up shooting Purser with a hand gun.
Purser was transported to Carteret General Hospital and later transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds according to police.
Haas was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm with town limits. Haas was transported to the Carteret County Magistrates Office where he was given a $45,000.00 bond.
