NEW INFO: Second Suspect Arrested In Winterville Dollar General Robbery

A second suspect has been charged for the armed robbery at the Dollar General in Winterville.

Police say 17-year-old Jaquan Chamberlain of Winterville is charged with the armed robbery and for making a false 911 call. Another suspect, 17-year-old Brandon Thompson, was arrested after the Thursday night hold-up.

Neither suspect is in jail at this time, according to online jail records. Thompson was being held after his arrest under a $25,000 bond.

Police filed false 911 call charges against the suspects because they say the two called 911 to report a fake incident in order to distract police. The Dollar General is less than 200 yards away from the police station in Winterville.

Previous Story
Police in two counties are checking to see if recent armed robberies at two Dollar General Stores are connected.

The latest one happened Thursday night in Winterville. On Monday night the location in Snow Hill was also robbed at gunpoint.

Winterville police say their robbery happened around 9:58 p.m. at the business on Main Street, that's less than 200 yards away from the police department.

Police have charged 17-year-old Brandon Thompson of Ayden with robbery and making a false 911 call. An arrest report says the teen was armed with a rifle and he's being held on a $25,000 bond.

A police report says the robbers got $335 in cash. It lists Thompson's occupation as a student. Pitt County Schools says the teen did attend Ayden-Grifton High School last fall, but is no longer a student.

Snow Hill Chief John Rea says they are checking to see if the two robberies are related. He says both happened around the same time of the day, and long rifles were used in both hold-ups.

Previous Story

Police were on the scene of an armed robbery late Thursday night at the Dollar General on Main Street in Winterville according to a Pitt county law enforcement official.

There are few details at this point, but it's believed two suspects were involved and one may be in custody. We're working to get further information and will pass that along as soon as we get it.

"Neither are in jail at this time, according to online records"????? ummmmm they are 17 years old and will not appear in the detainee search records on website!!! if you notice neither suspects have appeared in's jailbookings either---BECAUSE they are not 18 but surely if you visit PCDC someone can verify that they are in population but NOT with the adults!!! Please believe me cause I have already visited PCDC and gained this info. SUSPECTS ARE NOT OUT ON THE STREETS YET!!!

I knew both of these kids when they were in school. They were always getting in trouble, very disrespectful to the teachers, and did not want to do what they were supposed to do. What they wanted to do was walk around the schools thinking they were thugs. Well now they've earned that title.

This isn't Chamberlain's first rodeo. He was arrested last summer.

This is why you need to stay in school, why would you rob a store near a police staton, that was smart.

Why in the world isn't he still in jail? Makes no sense that people are allowed out of jail on charges like this. He threatened the lives of others for money. Unarmed robbery suspects shouldn't be allowed out, but ARMED with a GUN? Should be locked up AT LEAST until his court date. Good to know that the same people who committed this crime are out and about in Wville right now.

where did u receive info that they have been released? I visited PCDC yesterday and Thompson is still there. IF you are visiting the website and checking the detainee search records- he or they will not be listed because they are considered minor(under 18)- also not listed on jailbookings for the same reasons. He is at PCDC but not in adult population and Chamberlain should be there also.

Hey, why don't they just put up another one of those signs that reads "No Guns Allowed" or "No concealed carry"...Yea, then the thugs who come to rob them at gun point will see the sign and know for sure that guns are NOT allowed in there and so they will not rob the joint since they won't want to leave the gun outside....:) IDIOTS. Criminals DO NOT care about your laws. Hello???? Stop with NO GUN signs already. They Do NOT work!!!!!

Why do people dislike Obama so much? What has he done other than try to make things better? It makes me sick to see such close-minded people hating on someone they don't even want to know more about. Just blame Obama for your lack of motivation, your income, lack of work, etc. Do not try to do anything for yourself and blame Obama. Look at only the bad and the things have not been achieved, and live a better life. I thought this was America, and people did things for themselves and their country WAYYY before the government does. Now it seems we are dependent on the government to do EVERYTHING for us, including make us happy and content. Wow, such amazing patriotism and pride we have left. Not...just blame the man for all your woes, never look at yourself and what YOU can do to fix it.

Why do people dislike Obama so much you ask.. hah For one why would a presidential candidate choose to avoid placing his hand on his heart during the national anthem? or Obama Concealing his Illegal Alien Relative.. "Aunti".. then makes comments like “They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?” and then again in Missouri.. "He's got a funny name. You know, he doesn't look like all those other Presidents on those dollar bills, you know. He's risky. That's essentially the argument they're making." Why would a presidential candidate make such comments... or Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. has made no apology, and Obama has not called for him to make an apology or encourage any other atonement for the extremely offensive statements that he made.. OBAMA: BAD FOR AMERICA~

Call it what you want, but let's call it like it is. It's probably best people vent here on this board than out in the streets...Oh, like the idiots that called themselves Occucrap...Oh, no I call them that. LOSERS!!!! Just like the deadbeat jokers that sit at home doing whatever the heck they feel like and taking money "from the state and federal government" behind. They're taking from the working stiffs that get the heck up and go to work everyday. Yea, this welfare, touchy feely Nanci Pelosi croud, Obama lovin' idiotic BS needs to stop! We're too close to bad things happening.

Because we have become a nation of whiners who point the finger at others instead of getting up on our hind legs and taking responsibility for letting our country fall apart. We all have to get out and vote, get involved in local volunteer activities, stick our necks out to better our communities and take the heat for it. (Yes I have, before anyone starts hating.) We have to buy everything we can that is made in the USA. What's parked in our driveways right now? A Toyota made in Kentucky? A Ford F-150 assembled in Mexico? It gets complicated, but we have to make an effort while we still can.
