Former High School Coach Facing More Charges

A former high school basketball coach is facing more charges.

Halifax County deputies say they charged Erick Williams on Monday with disseminating obscene materials to a minor under the age of 16.

Last week the former JV basketball coach at Northwest Halifax High School was arrested on three counts of indecent liberties with a student.

Keith Hoggard, a spokesman for the school district says allegations of misconduct surfaced in January and says Williams was immediately fired.

Deputies say in the latest charge Williams is accused of sending out an inappropriate picture to a minor that was discovered during their initial investigation.

The 28-year-old man's bond was set at $5,000.

Another high school coach in Eastern Carolina is accused of having improper contact with students. It's the second one since Wednesday.

Halifax County deputies say Erick Williams, a former basketball coach at Northwest Halifax High School, is accused of having sexual misconduct with three students at the high school.

The 28-year-old Williams is charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a student. Williams was given a $3,000 bond and has a May 2nd court date.

A news release says Williams was the basketball coach at the school when he met the students. The Sheriff's Office says Williams is no longer employed with the school system.

Keith Hoggard, a spokesman for the school district says allegations of misconduct surfaced in January and says Williams was immediately fired.

Hoggard says Williams started volunteering in the fall of last year as a junior varsity basketball coach at the high school. Williams was also a substitute teacher at Southeast High School for a short time, according to the school system.

The school system spokesman says they perofrmed a background check on Williams prior to him volunteering and his employment, and that it came back clean.

A newspaper profile says Williams pursued a Sports Management degree at East Carolina University.

On Wednesday, a football coach at Jones Senior High School was charged with soliciting a child by computer, indecent liberties with a student, and contributing to the delinquency of juvenile. Authorities say Vaughn Chance of Trenton was having inappropriate relations with three female students.
