Marine Facing Prison Time For Sex Charges

We're gathering details on a Camp Lejeune Marine who pleaded guilty to soliciting sex with a minor.

John Leone was arrested in June after a three month investigation when he talked to whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl online, but the Wilmington Star news reports, she was actually a Pender County detective. The paper says the 24-year-old traveled from Camp Lejeune to Pender County to meet the girl. According to the paper Leone has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison. He'll also receive a bad conduct discharge from the Marine Corps and must register as a sex offender.

When I spoke about the Captain in the MC that received 10yrs reduced to 15 months, THERE were victims, MANY victims. The 10 year old boy was the one that was the first to come forward. Then many more came forward in the Charleston area that had been assaulted for years. My beef is that this Captain received squat compared to others. ALSO the MC DID NOT do an investigation as they said. They kept it quiet as possible. If you investigate, you check past stations, talk with former roommates and so on......the MC only makes examples of ones that get caught publicly, otherwise they keep it quiet. IT'S SAD. 15 months for doing everything you can think of with a 10 year old boy....and several others from 10-13. This was a MALE MARINE on male boys, not a woman Captain. JR

Thank you common sense!! I wonder if all the other killers and child creepers get as much news coverage as those in the military? What about all the other morons who are shooting up houses and killing kids in drive bys?? Do you ever hear these stories on the front page? Absolutely not!! As a victim of sexual abuse, I have no pity for this waste of space. However, don't catergorize him with the other Marines like my husband who serve their country and are well respected men!!

4 and a half years and there wasn't even a real victim involved? I am all for justice, but the system in North Carolina is screwed up. Men that have actually taken indecent liberties with a child get sentenced to less time than this guy. Is the proper administration of justice still proper when the system is used to make an example of someone?

I have 2 sons in the Marine Corp. I hate to hear bad stuff about our Military men and women. But treat him like anyone else and try and convict him for this, give him the harshest punishment to set an example

It's sad that this Marine gets more time than a Marine Captain that plead guilty to being a pedophile that had assaulted unknown numbers of boys from the age of 10 up and received only 15 months, it was 10 years reduced to 15 months in the Charleston brig. The MC didn't even check his previous stations for victims, so no investigation was done as there are many more victims over the years from this guy. JR

Good Job! "To Catch a Predator" Carolina Style! And THANK YOU WITN for posting this story. So many times we find out about a sex offender after they have committed a horrific act. How's that STUDENT?

It's not just Marines. There is always a 10% in any group or organization that are giving their peers a bad name. And you ask why Marines are doing such extreme things. Try being put through the things they are. By no means am I excusing child exploitation (shoot him), but killing last time I checked that's their job. If you haven't been to a combat zone AS A COMBATANT, don't judge the actions done there. And there was a name. Open your eyes. There is plenty of information. Name, Place, and dates. What else do you need, a picture book to give you a play by play.
