Fayetteville Father Killed Wife, 2 Children, Then Self

Police say a real estate developer known as an active member of his church shot and killed his wife and two teen children and then committed suicide in their Fayetteville home.

Authorities did not hint at a motive into the slayings by William Maxwell in an upscale neighborhood of the city Monday night.

Police said Tuesday that 47-year-old Maxwell killed wife Kathryn, 17-year-old Connor and 15-year-old Cameron before turning a gun on himself.

Friends and neighbors say the Maxwells were a friendly family who kept a meticulous yard and were active in their church and their children's religious high school.

Fayetteville is about 50 miles southwest of Raleigh and home to the Army's sprawling Fort Bragg.

People who are looking for an excuse to blame Christians. DON'T GET IT TWISTED! Please understand that going to church means nothing. WITN, why was this tidbit of information important about being an "active church member." Going to church, means nothing. WE all can go to church...the heart is what matter. If one follows the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, they cause NO PAIN or confusion. Any one who resides in this "dark place" lost HOPE in them. My condolences to their families and friends.

What is the bible verse where it says you go to hell for suicide???? I always remember 2 Sam 1:23 about King Saul who killed himself during battle...the bible leaves you to believe he went to heaven.

The economy has been very hard on families like the Maxwells and ourselves because of our careers. Mr. Maxwell being a Christian man must have felt extremely desperate to do this to his family and knowing what the bible says of this act. We have known 3 men in Atlanta to make this choice for themselves but NOT their famliy. I am very sad this has happened.

I think Anonymous at 6am thought he/she was posting about the baby being killed and mother and sibling being sick from bug foggers being used in the home. Sometimes the comments get crossed.

What was wrong with this man, if he wanted to die, why take the whole family, why did he not just kill his-self if he wanted out of this world? Such a shame that he decided when these people had to die. So Sad. The kids had so much time to live for.
