It Was No Trick Or Treat As At Least 18 Were Arrested By Highway Patrol For DWI In Greenville

A spokesperson for the Highway Patrol says they arrested 18 people for DWI during the Halloween festivities in Greenville.

Check points were set up at Charles and Ficklin Streets from 10pm till midnight. They also took place on 10th and 5th Street between midnight and 2am Sunday morning.

The spokesperson said the Booze It & Lose It bus was filled with people all night.

They exact number of people arrested for DWI is expected to be released Monday.

The spokesperson said unofficially at least 4 to 5 more people during patrols were taken to the Pitt County Detention Center in addition to the 18 that were arrested.

Good Job to all the ECU officers, Pitt County Deputies and SHP who help get these drivers off the road!

Sorry to dissapoint you, but ECU PD isn't allowed to conduct checkpoints anymore. Just like they're not allowed to chase cars anymore. It looks like the SHP are the only "real cops" left in this county.

It's FICKLEN Dr., not Ficklin! Why don't you try reporting the real arrest numbers from this weekend. How come no one reported ECU's numbers from Halloween? They actually arrested over ten. Maybe that's because they were busy handling calls for GPD while 5th St. went out of control. I saw ECU taze one guy at a huge party, but no Greenville cops in sight.

Please. This is ridiculous. People - especially college studens drink and drive. We are all fooling ourselves if we havnt had a drink and driven. Perhaps even to many, past the limit and driven convincing ourselves that we are OK. To say u r an idiot or need mental help because you drink really indicates ur lack of understanding with alcohol. Judgement is not what is needed.

Life is just so rough here isn't it? You have no idea how good you have it here. You need to get out into the world a bit. I would say join the military but I know that woud make you uncomfortable and you would actually be serving a cause bigger than yourself. If you don't want to get stopped, then walk and quit your crying.

Although it appears you likely have the "speeding" part of the speeding ticket experience down pat, you need to do a little more research concerning where the fines for these offenses go to.

The reason Im going to say "idiot" as a label is a bit harsh is because I agree with the comment below about WHY ppl do this. It doesnt excuse the action, but good ppl sometimes do stupid things. It doesnt mean it shouldnt be punished (clearly, it should) or that they dont need help and a reason to not do it again (they do). But... until someone has been in a despairing frame of mind, one where they dont feel they have anything to come home to or even live for, they will not know what motivates a person to commit this careless act. Despair, and/or no longer having a feeling, combined with chemical impairment, means the person will not make reasonable decisions. That said, the process of paying the price for culpability, and then finding ways to get what you need straight in your life, DOES WORK - if the person wants to make the effort.
