A 12-year-old shooting victim remains in the hospital, five days after being shot in the legs while in his home.

Terry Randolph, Jr. was shot while he was watching television in the living room. It happened at the home of his father's girlfriend Wednesday night.

A 12-year-old shooting victim wants to know why someone would be shooting at his house.

Terry Randolph, Jr. spoke to WITN's Michael Baldwin Friday afternoon from his bed at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The boy was shot Wednesday night as he laid on the living room floor watching television. It happened in the home of the girlfriend of his father, who was babysitting the youngster.

"I was laying on the floor watching T.V. and that's when I heard gun shots. I thought they were shooting in the air so I got up...that's when I got shot in my legs," says Randolph.

After having the bullet removed Thursday, the boy says it hurts the most around his knee.

The boy's mother believes gangs may be involved and whoever did this targeted the wrong house when her son was caught in the crossfire.

Deputies continue to search for those responsible for the shooting.

Previous Story

A Martin County child, who was shot while in his living room watching television, is now in good condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

12-year-old Terry Randolph, Jr. underwent surgery Thursday on his leg, having the bullet removed.

Terrance Randolph, Sr. says his son is still in a lot of pain. Randolph says now his son and his daughter are afraid to stay in the home that was shot at Wednesday night.

It happened around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday night on Bailey Road outside of Williamston.

Investigators say the child was in the living room when three shots were fired from outside. Lt. Drew Robinson says it does not appear the child was being targeted, and he may have just been in the wrong place at the time.

The father's girlfriend, who was babysitting the child, tells WITN News she was in the kitchen when she heard shots and heard the boy scream. She said she ran into the living room area to find blood all over the floor.

Deputies are asking if anyone was in the area of Bailey Road between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and saw any suspicious activity or heard anything should contact Martin County investigators as soon as possible.

How much money do you people think workers on minimum wage make? Do you ALL think that everyone that has to have help from welfare does so because they want to? Some of you have no business even posting up here, really.

This has gone too far. somebody has got to stop this mess before it gets out of hand. I would suggest that the president makes a plan to to gang violence and i pray that Terry will be alright. Gang activity has grown at the highest this year and its getting worse.I just hope that it doesn't that it will just stop.

I really can't believe that the conversations are so far from the well-being of the child. Come on people! Everyone should be concerned about this child and the family. Terry has a long way to go. What about conversations about how we can pull together and help this family. Reading all of the posts make me realize that all of you need prayers also. If we focus on our own issues we would not have time to be judgemental of others. My prayers and thoughts are with Terry and his family.

Yet some people do not think there any race issues in the world. Just because he is black right Dave. Just like with the little boy who got bitten by the dog. Dave I could assume if you are white that you are a crazy serial killer or a wife beater or a person who takes out a big insurance policy on your spouse than pay someone to kill them. Oh and blame it on a black man. Am I right Dave. Since you assume the little boy has medicaid. Guess what Dave if I could help pay any child hospital bill I would.

To Dave, How may hospital bills have the tax payers paid for your family. Plus how do you know the child is not insured. He does have two working parents. SO, what in the article told you that tax payers will have to pay this bill. Inquring Minds want to know!!!

Reading some of these comments, noticeably Dave's, caused me to reflect on a statement I once heard. They say if you're under 30 and not a Democrat, then you don't have a heart. If you're over 30 and not a Republican, then you don't have a brain. Well, I say that the true essence of life consists of having a heart and a brain. They are inseparable and render all class/race divisions as nugatory. May you all grow in your knowledge of the world and develop a mature perspective of the people and things surrounding you.
