Thursday was the day 27 violent criminals were supposed to be released from state prisons.Five of them were convicted of crimes, including murder and rape, in Eastern Carolina.
Governor Beverly Perdue, however, ordered the inmates stay in prison until the courts system can look at whether they should have been given good conduct credits.
The offenders, who were sentenced to life in prison, were scheduled to get out, in some cases after serving only 30 years.
