Man Stabbed; Girlfriend Arrested & Later Released

Rocky Mount police say they continue to investigate a stabbing late Saturday night after a person arrested was released by a magistrate.

Police were called to apartments at 4625 Sunset Avenue for a domestic disturbance. There they found Daniel Hopkins had been stabbed in the stomach.

Hopkins told police he was partying all night and didn't know when or where he was stabbed. Police say the victim wouldn't answer questions and refused to cooperate with the investigation.

They arrested Russhawn Fields, the victim's girlfriend and charged her with domestic violence/assault with a deadly weapon. But a magistrate found no probable cause and Fields was later released.

Police say their investigation into the stabbing of Hopkins continues.

I agree with sick and tired and Steve, I always hear things about Rocky Mount and I don't even live there!! Talk about Washington NC, they got more crimes activity going on and something need to be done about it!!!! Seriously!

I agree with sick and tired. The "wrong element" has almost completely overrun this once nice city. Our new mayor seems more interested in photo ops and free food at ribbon cuttings than actually dealing with the gang situation as he promised to during the time when he ran for office. The streets of this once nice city are now littered with trash. Literally and figuritivlly. That is why most stories from Rocky Mount are like this one. It's a circus, and we have a ringmaster instead of a mayor!

Apparently there was no probable cause found by the magistrate. There is nothing in this story that would indicate that she stabbed the man. Would you feel better if she went to jail for 48 hours without bond for something she did not do and then be in jail up to a year waiting to go to trial on a felony assault charge? We are not hearing both sides of the story.

Another fine example of how skewed the laws are against men. Let him have stabbed her and he wouldn't see the light of day for 48 hrs min, and if he couldn't post bond who knows how long. These laws need updating badly.

I live in RM and am sick and tired of RM being in the news for crime every single day. What an embarrassment it is to say I live here. Gangs, thugs, and low lives have taken over this once nice place to live. Sad, really sad.
