A jury has found a southwest Ohio pediatrician guilty of 16 sex-related charges involving former patients.
A Butler County jury on Friday convicted 53-year-old Dr. Mark Blankenburg of gross sexual imposition, corruption of a minor, compelling prostitution and other charges.
Blankenburg's twin brother, also a pediatrician, faces trial on 22 similar charges in April.
A judge will determine Mark Blankenburg's guilt on 25 remaining counts that include bribery and drug trafficking.
He is accused of giving his patients money and drugs to keep quiet about the alleged molestation. Defense attorneys have said the sex allegations are false and that accusers extorted money and drugs from him.
A man who claims a southwest Ohio pediatrician molested him as a teenager took the stand in a case against the physician, testifying that the doctor gave him prescription drugs and payments of up to $15,000 in exchange for keeping the sex abuse quiet.
The now 24-year-old man said Wednesday he was 13 when he was first sexually assaulted by 53-year-old Dr. Mark Blankenburg.
Blankenburg is one of two twin brother pediatricians accused of sex crimes involving minors in Hamilton, about 30 miles north of Cincinnati. His brother, Scott Blankenburg, faces trial in April.
A lawyer for Mark Blankenburg says there is no evidence linking his client to the crimes, and that Mark Blankenburg was a victim of extortion, paying the accuser up to $250,000 over several years.
