Sentencing Continued For Teacher

Sentencing was continued Monday for a former Jones Senior High School Teacher, accused of having sex with one of her students.

Shebana Rajput has pleaded no contest, which means she's not admitting guilt but doesn't dispute the charges.

The 35-year-old Rajput was arrested in Lenoir County in 2008.

Investigators say she was involved in sexual activity at least nine times with a 17 year old at her Lenoir County home.

The school system says Rajput quit her job in May 2008, before she was arrested.

I guess society as truly lost all morals if you think it's okay for a teacher to sleep with a student. I would have to question those people that think it's actually ok. They are probably saying "what's the big deal" because they would do it themselves if given the opportunity. I think she got exactly what she deserved, had she been a male and the student a female the punishment would have been much worse.

I know this person personally. She is very likeable and shy. She may have her own issues to deal with but the sentence is too harsh, in my opinion. Just think about the things we have all done and not been caught doing..............

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW FOR A TEACHER TO HAVE A REALTIONSHIP (SEXUAL) WITH A STUDENT. PERIOD. AGAINST THE LAW! AND IS PUNISHABLE. SHE SHOULD LOOK INTO THE EYES OF HER OWN TWO DAUGHTERS AND DISCOVER HER INTERPRETATION OF THE SAME LAW SHOULD A MALE TEACHER SEDUCE ONE OF HER CHILDREN.

This case is all about money. Who ever the 17 year old was he didn't not want to be there, or he would have said something the first time. He was one year away from Adulthood, and in this state 16 is the age of concent. They are taking this WAY overboard. This is crazy, and should not be drug in the mud like this. They should care more about the drugs and unsaved souls at the these schools.

purebread sorry thats the way I think and why? I had a daughter get pregnant at 14 and granddaughter at 17 and I wasnt charlotte when my granddaughter got pregnant but let me tell you just like this teacher/student thing I dealt with it I might liked it bbut it worked out but I didnt go blabing it around blabing it around like maybe this young man did. they werew shoved into the public eye but there are many out there doing the same thing. I might not like it at first but I would deal with it so which is worse this teacher have sex with a 17 yr old or the nine year old gang raping that liberian girl or the 9 year old up for murder have I made my point? they did what human beings do, with you or me or anyone else likes it or not

Sure he was 17 and close to adulthood. If the teacher is guilty, she made a poor judgement. She should have just kept in touch with him and waited until he turned 18. Kids are going to kiss and tell. This isn't the first time something like this happened in Eastern NC. The results are never in favor of the adult. Teachers, keep your relationship with your pupils professional until they are adults in the eyes of the law. Even, then be careful. It's not wise to be the one writing their grades AND sleeping with them.

Its not so much about the age. It is about a teacher intrusted at a school to protect and educate her students. NOT HAVE SEX WITH THEM. Got it yet?!

My guess is she has some mental and emotional issues she needs to address and get some help. Yeah, what she did was totally wrong but something IS wrong with someone that does that. I hope she gets the help she needs and stays out of the schools.
