ECU Police Investigating Campus Sexual Assault

ECU Police are investigating a reported sexual assault inside one of the residence halls.

Assistant Police Chief Dawn Tevepaugh tells WITN the alleged assault occurred Saturday morning between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. inside Tyler Hall.

We're told the victim, a woman, is a freshman student and lives on campus, but not in that particular dorm.

Officers say it happened inside a room with a person the victim may have been familiar with.

Right now there is no information on a possible suspect, but officers say they're still investigating the claim. ECU police say alcohol is factor in this case.

University police say it is the first reported sexual assault this school year, and the fifth within the past two years at ECU.

Michael - most students at ECU are in between the age of 18 - 24. I don't understand why ECU has not alerted their students of this, no email, no message alert, NOTHING! Even if it is still under investigation, students/parents/staff need to be alerted of this situation.

Whether she was drinking under age or not, no one deserves to be raped. I really think that her being charged with underaged drinking should be the least of everyone's worries. Maybe people should be more worried about how she's doing rather than if she was drunk or not.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most students at ECU are between the ages of 18-20. I bet she was underaged and drinking alcohol. If that's the case, she should be charged with underaged drinking. Being stupid and drinking under the age is grounds for stupid things to happen. And if your drunk, No means No. Yes means No.

There was no evidence that a rape had occurred on the last reported rapes on campus. Anyone can yell rape, but there has to be an investigation to determine the truth. People stop jumping to conclusions because you don't know all of the facts.

Shame , why cant guys treat others with respect. We sent our students to college to enjoy themselves, get an education and develope into more productive citizens. Why hasn't the administration informed the residents in the dorm via email, rather than having them returning to their home away from home ,Tyler Hall/ECU campus. ONLY to find the NEWS media out front on college hill interviewing students that were not previously advised of the incident. PAY ATTENTION YOUNG LADIES < IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED like a lady you must act like a lady. Acting like one of the guys only sets you up to become a victim. Save your reputation act like a LADY. We love you and dont want to see you hurt by others that dont care.

Let me get this staight she was sexually assaulted in some one else room and she was familiar with this person. So did that person attack her or did he or she allow someone to attack her. Really not understanding the story. Seems like to me she went to a guy's room and got into a bad situation.

ok this is for all ecu students(especially females) don't walk around at night downtown or any where alone always travel in groups. make sure you have a way to contact others and also pepper spray or just a very loud whistle to get others attention. More people react to someone yelling fire than help. Please be careful downtown because you got alot of thugs in the area that prey on the weak so to speak.

Hey Worried ... are you taking about the supposed rape from last year where the girl invited the 3 or was it 4 guys back to her room to party, after they asked her for directions, and she awoke the next morning to find that they had taken some of her stuff?
