A former bookkeeper is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in school funds.
April Lamont was charged with six counts of felony embezzlement by Greenville police.
The 40-year-old Lamont was the treasurer at Wintergreen Primary School until she resigned in July.
Police say she stole nearly $50,000 in school funds. The missing money was found during an internal audit of the school's financial account.
According to investigators, Lamont took the funds between March 2007 and this past July by taking cash and writing checks to herself totaling more than $49,200.
She was released from jail after posting a $5,000 secured bond.
The school system says Lamont started working for them in 1999 as a teacher's assistant. Spokeswoman Heather Mayo says Lamont had been a bookkeeper for at least the past four years.
