One Eastern Carolina woman says she's glad to be alive after a bullet entered her bedroom and landed on her pillow.

Ernestine Spruill says she was getting ready to jump in bed around 1AM Sunday morning when a bullet entered her bedroom through the ceiling.

Spruill who lives in Lewiston-Woodville in Bertie County says she told her 7 year old daughter to stay on the couch while she fixed the sheets.

That's when she heard a noise that sounded like glass shattering according to Spruill.

Bertie County investigators tell Spruill the bullet she found came from a 38 caliber revolver. Spruill and her two young children are glad everyone is safe.

Bertie County investigators have not made any arrests.

Spruill hopes this will shed some light on the violence in her neighborhood.

Forget the bullet. My concern is for the 7 year old child that was still wide awake at 1 am in the morning. That is not a normal and reasonable bed time for a child that age.

To shed some light to the citizens of Bertie County it's all about who u are in this county...Wake up and take a stand...

Chris , i am a huge supporter of law enforcement & i am well aware the county is short staffed. However , i have had too many deputies show up and treat me like i'm stupid & don't know what i heard -or see for that matter . i reported drug activity in lewiston for years by the same man over & over (& i paid a high price for telling)only to have nothing done. all i'm saying is when citizens try to help u -don't treat us like we're stupid .

UR right, Unless things have changed at the Sheriffs Office the problem is not that anyone "forgets" about the other side of Hwy. 11, It boils down to simple math. 2 Deputies patrol the county at any given time, the county is 700 and some odd square miles. Windsor, Merry Hill, Colerain, Powesville, trap, Aulander, lewiston, Kelford, Roxobel etc ALL call on those two deputies that are working. You should really voice concern at the county commissioners meeting about hiring more deputies. One domestic call in colerain can tie up both officers for atleast an hour or two depending on the situation. I won't knock Chief Winston Panton as he does a job that not many of us would have. Working as the only small town police officer is not something out of mayberry. alot of administrative ressponsibility along with pending court cases and other duties that officers must do severely limits what just one officer can do. Giving the poor nature of Bertie County I highly doubt any of this changes.

it is getting out of hand here . i report gunshots all the time and it is a waste as nothing is done.i abide by the law that you can not fire 1 in town but i will fire if i need to protect myself as 1 cop here & a sheriffs dept that forgets bertie co extends across hwy 11 means u better be able to take care of yourself

To the Anonymous smart one; I'm certain that the victim in this story does NOT have a glass ceiling. She simply stated, that the noise she heard, SOUNDED like glass shattering. Lots of things I'm sure, being shot at, could sound like glass shattering.
