Two North Carolina sheriff's deputies were shot and wounded following a car chase, and officials say the suspect the officers were chasing was killed.
Debra Henzey, Chatham County community relations director, said in a statement Thursday afternoon that the chase began at the Moore County line and ended in Siler City, approximately 20 miles away and around 50 miles west of Raleigh.
Henzey said the suspect fired on the deputies, hitting both of them in the leg. The deputies returned fire and killed the suspect, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Henzey said the two deputies, whose names were not immediately released, are in good condition at Chatham Hospital.
