Police in one Eastern Carolina town are investigating the discovery of a dead 16-year-old girl and a man in a cemetery.
Mount Olive police say the bodies were found Sunday afternoon in the Carver Memorial Park. They say 16-year-old Martavia Royster and 29-year-old Tiqko King were in a relationship. Both people were from Mount Olive.
Relatives of the 16-year-old told WITN News they have no idea who would want to harm the girl. They say Royster had just moved to Mount Olive two months ago from Hampton, Virginia.
"I just can't believe that this really happened like to me. It's really hard to believe. We still all curious about why somebody would want to do this to her," said Rykidevonna Smith, the victim's sister.
Police say physical evidence leads them to believe no one else was involved in the two people's deaths. They are awaiting toxicology tests and autopsy results and say their investigation remains open.
The bodies were found when a person went to visit a relative's grave at the cemetery. Police tell us the two bodies were found about 200 feet apart.
Authorities say the discovery of the two bodies is not connected to an alleged sexual assault that happened in the same cemetery Friday night.
