Man Who Beat And Tortured Boy Sentenced To Prison

A Southern California man who fatally beat and tortured his girlfriend's 2-year-old son has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Joan Weber said during Thursday's sentencing that the evidence against Jose Maurice Castenada was overwhelming.

Castenada was convicted in June of first-degree murder after testimony revealed the boy was kept in a closet and tortured with hangers, belts and a cable wire over several months.

An autopsy revealed victim Cesar Razo had 304 injuries on his 23-pound body when he died at a hospital in June 2005.

Jurors who convicted the 25-year-old Castenada deadlocked on recommending the death penalty or life imprisonment.

The child's mother Maria Razo received a nearly 17-year term for voluntary manslaughter and child abuse.

Why does these women feel the need to allow these sorry men in their lives to make them feel complete? Why let these men abuse their children? These children did not ask to be here. I would not allow a man into my life that did not love my children. God is gonna get tired of this foolishness.

Why did the mother only get 17 years? The boy probably had 70 good years ahead of him. His life on earth was a living hell. The mother and her boyfriend are getting off way too easy.

When I read stuff like that it give me chill bumps. I have a 17 month old and I just can't imagine what these people are thinking. When I look at her I think of all these horrible stories you hear about locally as well as all over and it just breaks my heart. I feel anyone that harms a child should automatically go to the electric chair. Less mouths to feed in jail!!!!!

I don't generally support the death penalty - but in this case, it is justified. This person should not be allowed to live on this earth and breathe the air. This is not a human being.

Ashlie I could not agree with you more, not only should they do the same thing he did to that child but after they are finished with him the he should go straight to the ELECTRIC CHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They should lock him in a closet and do the samething to him. I will never understand how someone could hurt a child.
