Rocky Mount Man Shot

A man is recovering Saturday after getting a bullet wound to the head in Rocky Mount.

The shooting happened in the 1200 block of Planters Street near Long Avenue Friday night.

The victim is 22-year-old Demanchea Johnson.

Police say a man, later identifed as Charles Dickens, pulled up to Johnson in a vehicle, got out, yelled out to Johnson that he owed him money, then opened fire.

Johnson was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Dickens is still at large. Police say his last known address, as of May this year, was on cIntyre Lane. Police say Dickens may be traveling in a 1993, white-in-color Nissan Maxima, NC registration tag YYX-8715.
He is known to frequent Crestview Road.

This gunman looks like the last gunman. The beat goes on. We just keep feeding, nurturing and feeling sorry for the beast that will eventually kill us all.

Spoken like a true thug "dc". Since the police are so bad at what they do, I wonder when you will show them how it is done? Crime is up everywhere, its not like the police have a magic pill to solve any of this. Alot falls on the community as well to do their part, Rocky Mount is falling apart at the seams and you say its not that bad..lol.

I thought he died many years ago after writing Oliver Twist? Some return from the dead, huh?

William, Rocky Mount is no different than any other city. Crime is rising everywhere, the businesses are closing on a daily basis. Rocky Mount is a dying city though, it appears it never really rebounded from floyd in 99. I will agree that there is not much to be seen in RM these days. I know a few officers with Rocky Mount PD and they are swamped with calls on a daily basis much like here in Greenville. Be safe over there in RM but don't expect to escape the violence by going elsewhere.

Please take my advice as a citizen of this area: Do not come to Rocky Mount. There is really nothing to be seen here. Lots of businesses are packing up because of the escalating gang problems. It has become rampant throughout the community not just in the "bad parts of town". Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Charles Dickens?? Why is he demanding money from people? You would think that with all the money he made from Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol that he wouldn't have to resort to this thuggish behavior!
