Greenville Woman Killed; Police Searching For Gunman

A woman is dead and Greenville police are searching for her killer who they say is considered armed and dangerous.

Police say they're looking for Markelby "Scooter" Ward for Friday morning's shooting death of Lorraine Pearson.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. at 301 Raleigh Avenue where police found the woman with a gunshot wound to the neck.

A preliminary investigation shows the woman was having a dispute with someone she knew when she was shot. Pearson died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Ward's last known address was on Fleming Street. Anyone with information on Ward should call Pitt-Greenville Crime Stoppers at 252-758-7777.

Crime isn't as bad as it seems. Isn't that what the chief said just the other day? Maybe he doesn't look at the news or read the papers. Fire him!!!

The chief here was a victim of circumstance. He made a statement that is true, just at a bad time. This whole thing is the fault of the guy who pulled the trigger not the police chief, city council or the victim.

Majority of these comments are about what the chief said, we are not on that issue at this time. We are talking about a innocent person who's life was taken, because she tried to stop criminal activity. You should be sending out thoughts and prays to her family, on behalf of her actions on trying to do something postive for her community. May God Bless this family.

No need to be racist people this isn't a race issue, it has nothing to do with our police dep or our chief of police they are not psychic they have no idea when someone is going to get shot, killed, robbed, or raped. The only thing they can do is show up when called and follow their leads. I guess most of you haven't lived in Gville your entire life because you would have notice there is a trend every year that the crime rate increases during the summer remember during this time last year almost every convience store was robbed in Gville. The year before that there was alot of gang related activity which I lost four friends that year due to gun violence. Anyone worried about ECU... what for they have their own police dep which their police treat anyone who isn't a student on their property like their some kind of terrorist. Gville is still a great place we just have bad seeds like every other city.

Well Devil Dog I consider myself a GOOD CITZEN but I will never report any criminal activity. You know why because I value my life and the life of my family. If you haven't notice people do not stay locked up that long and police really do not protect the so call GOOD CITZEN. They even order hits from their jail

Well Cindi this woman was probably minding her business too. Yet you act like you know her when you just some unknown person sitting at your computer talking about something you know nothing about. You don't even know what Landon was doing that night unless you were there.

I remember the days when the criminals were terrified of police officers.... but now our chief decorates them up like freakin christmas trees in very unsafe un-tactical bright yellow shirts and tells them that they have to protect the drunks downtown instead of me... does anyone know when they will be able to protect the tax payers again?? i'm 46 years old. i live on the "west side" and loved seeing the police doing their job... i dont't see them any more at night...when it matters...!

To the person who posted to Devil Dog....Devil Dog is what a MARINE is called. I'm retired from the CORPS and consider myself a GOOD citizen and can prove it. GOOD CITIZENS are those who get involved and ensure wrongs are being righted. I've been in community watches elsewhere and know that technique works. If people, more than one, know who the criminals are they have a duty to report them to the proper authority. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

How do the police know if this guy is the shooter? The story does not say anything about witnesses nor does it say the woman identified the man before she died. So how do they know?
