Deputies Arrest Man For Statutory Rape Of 11-Year-Old

A man is under arrest for statutory rape involving an 11-year-old girl.

Matthew Cummings of Camp Lejeune is charged with first degree statutory rape, first degree statutory sexual offense, indecent liberities with a child, and crime against nature.

Onslow County deputies say the 20-year-old raped the child in her own home, while the mother slept in another bedroom. Deputies say Cummings got beer from the refrigerator where both he and the victim drank and became intoxicated.

Deputies got involved in the case when they were summoned to a local mental facility because the child was having suicidal tendencies due to the rape.

A news release lists Cummings' address as a barracks at Camp Lejeune, but it did not say whether Cummings was a Marine or a member of the U.S. Navy.

Cummings is in jail on a $200,000 secured bond and will go before a judge Tuesday morning.

I know this man and his family. They are good people and raised their children better than what is to be believed to have happened. I consider this man my Brother and stand with him and his family. The girl came from an unstable family and was abused. She had suicidal tendencies before this "scandal" started. Who believes the media anyways, stupid mindless people I say. The media wants you to believe what they WANT you to believe. He is innocent until proven guilty, that's what the Justice System says but the media doesn't agree.

Wouldn't this be the commanding officer's fault? Why wasn't he in control of his solders? I'd blame the CO before his mother.

How could any 20 year old even fathom that an eleven year old could be stimulating verbally, mentally, emotionally or otherwise? Not only is he an underage drinker, but to "share a drink" with a child? Another disgusting confirming point for confusion of two brains. Makes all men seem less trustworthy. As for the mother-why would you knowingly leave these two together alone? SAD...........

To a Marines Wife & Anon how can you hold an 11 yr old responsible. She is a child. I hope your not a mother. Despite what the child did HE is the adult and should know better. What is wrong with you people. This is a child not an adult and you need to blame the adult. WOW! I am glad your not my parents.

maybe it took so long because they were building a case and waiting for the DNA and other evidence, reviewing with the da's office and going before grand jury. it takes awhile for that to come back from the lab. it is always running behind.i see a plea deal coming in this case! watch and see!!
