NEW INFO: Murder Suspect Makes Court Appearance

A district court judge told a murder suspect that he faces the death penalty if convicted.

Dontae Brown had his first court appearance Monday morning after being arrested early Sunday morning.

Robersonville police say Brown shot and killed Brent Sherod on North Everett Street Friday night. Police have not said yet what the motive might be.

Brown's next court appearance is set for August 17th.

A man accused of a murder in Robersonville is due in court Monday.

Robersonville Police say they arrested Dontae Lamont Brown around 2 a.m. Sunday morning at his father's home in Plymouth.

Police say they received a tip that Brown, who was wanted for murder in the death of Brent Sherod, was at his father's home on Mackey's Rd.

Brown was sitting on his father's couch when the Washington County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and Plymouth Police arrived.

The home was searched but law enforcement say they did not find any evidence. Brown was jailed without bond in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail.

On Friday, July 31, 2009 Brent Sherod was killed on North Everett Street, Robersonville. Through investigations and witness statements warrants were issued for Dontae Lamont Brown for murder.

On Sunday, August 2, 2009 Plymouth Police Department received information that Dontae Brown was at his father's residence on Mackey's Road, Plymouth.

At about 0200 hours Washington County Sheriff's Deputies, Plymouth Police Officers and North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the residence in an attempt to locate Dontae Lamont Brown on felony murder warrants.

Upon arrival law enforcement made entry where they located Dontae Brown on a couch. Dontae Brown complied with orders and was taken into custody without incident.

A search of the residence was conducted, but did not result in the location of any evidence. Dontae Brown was searched incident to arrest and transported to the Washington County Sheriff's Department where he was held for Agents of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Agents escorted Dontae Brown from the Washington County Sheriff's Department to the Martin County Sheriff's Department where Dontae Brown was processed and charged with murder.

Mr. Brown is currently being held at the Bertie Martin Regional Jail without bond. Mr. Brown's first appearance is scheduled for Monday, August 3, 2009 in Martin County District Court.

Robersonville Police are looking for the public's help to catch a murder suspect.

Arrests warrants have been issued for Dontae Brown. He is wanted in connection to the death of Brent Sherod.

Sherod's body was found dead on North Everett Street Friday night around 7:30.

Sherod died of a gun shot wound. The SBI is assisting in the investigation.
