Rocky Mount police say there appears to be no foul play in the death of a man at a hospital on Thursday.

Police say 23-year-old James Collins was found dead in an isolation room at Coastal Plain Hospital around 2:30 p.m. Collins, according to police, had been dead approximately six hours before being discovered by staff members.

According to its web site, Coastal Plain is a 50-bed inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment facility. It is owned by Nash Health Care Systems.

Preliminary results from the medical examiner’s office reveal that there are no apparent signs of foul play. But police say the actual cause of death is pending the toxicology results, which may not be available for several weeks.

The state Division of Health Service Regulation has an acute care section that investigates questionable deaths at hospitals. Health & Human Services spokesman Jim Jones says it's too early to say whether Thursday's death will be investigated or not by the state agency.

Well this sort of thing goes on in all the hospitals across our land. There is way to many staff who are just plain lazy, they will chart that they have checked on someone yet they never got up from their chair. Given meds is another big screw up. Not many has seen an inspection team come in and after they get done looking into records they can and will close it down and don't think for a moment they will not not do it. The staff really need to think what if they was laying there in the bed and needed something. It can be and is very stressful. Well if you can not stand the heat then get out of the kitchen.

somebody may be loseing a job, isolation room, that tells me that somebody did not check on him for six hours, unless he just walked in. I don't think he just walked in because in was at a psychiatric and substance abuse treatment facility, I would hope it is locked down all the time. Now I don't know the facts Iam just speculateing.

Sounds like some lazy staff members were not keeping a check on their patient as they should have been doing.
