Special Report: Attorneys From Cesar Laurean Case Speak Out

By: Christine Kennedy

It's a story that has gained national attention for two years: the case of Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean who sits in a jail charged with the death of his pregnant fellow Marine.

Laurean is charged with the brutal murder of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach, who authorities found burned and buried in Laurean's backyard in 2007.

The case for now is at a standstill as the state and defense pour over the 6,000 pages of evidence as well as disks to prepare for trial a trial both parties expect could take place as early as next spring.

We asked both the District Attorney and Laurean's Attorney, Dick McNeil, if they thought this case could come down to a plea deal where Laurean could receive less jail time.

Only about 3 percent of cases go to trial each year in our state.

I do not know why his attorney would even bother to ask for the trial to be moved because there is no where in the United States that this trial could be heard that they do not know something about this case because of him fleeing. I hope and pray that no plea deal is done and that they charge his wife also because I really feel that she had a part in the whole thing. I want to see justice for Maria and Gabriel.

I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

Why all the publicity? The Defense and the state department should charge him, as well as, his wife. I believe that the wife knew about his affair and decided to kill the woman and fetus in a jealous rage. Cazar looks like he's covering for "someone" hint-hint. On the other hand, his wife looks calculating (hmmmm). I am hoping to be picked as a juror. I going to stand up during selection and say...Why Cezar did you let her talk you into this. Why? When he turns to look at me, I am going to run for cover.

I'm confused as to how you can claim that he is a father and that would stop him from killing a baby? His wife was a mother, but yet you think she would be more capable of murdering an unborn child?

Nothing new or newsworthy here....is this just a "filler" story?

As long as he stays in jail, I really don't care what happens or when it happens.

I think there's more here than meets the eye. I've think that Laurean's wife did the actual killing and he felt like he had to cover it up. It's a passion killing. He is a father. I find it hard to believe he would kill a baby, especially one he thought was his. But his wife would. I think the wife has a lot to do with this. I guess we will find out one of these days.
