It's a story that has gained national attention for two years: the case of Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean who sits in a jail charged with the death of his pregnant fellow Marine.
Laurean is charged with the brutal murder of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach, who authorities found burned and buried in Laurean's backyard in 2007.
The case for now is at a standstill as the state and defense pour over the 6,000 pages of evidence as well as disks to prepare for trial a trial both parties expect could take place as early as next spring.
We asked both the District Attorney and Laurean's Attorney, Dick McNeil, if they thought this case could come down to a plea deal where Laurean could receive less jail time.
Only about 3 percent of cases go to trial each year in our state.
