Heist At Local Bank

A gunman held up a bank in Eastern Carolina Wednesday, and officials think the heist could be one in a series of bank robberies.

Edenton police in Chowan County say the robbery happened at Southern Bank at 101 W. Queen St. around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A press release from Police Chief Jay Fortenbery says the suspect came in with a handgun and demanded money. He was wearing a white t-shirt with green shorts. Officials says the suspect may have been driving a 1980s model Ford Bronco II with license plates from another state.

Chief Fortenbery says the same man may be responsible for bank robberies in Fayetteville and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

To Nom: In regards to your post....the "vault door" is open, but thats so clients have access to THEIR safe deposit box. The cash on hand is not just laying in the floor as you have eluded to. The pens are chained to the counter so you have one to use when you visit your bank!!! Bank robberies are serious and very scary. I am so glad that everyone involved are okie!

To: The Pirate Lady..I think Nom was trying to make a joke. NOt a very good one, but still. No one was fired, I assure you. RBC, you are correct that you never know what you will do until you are staring at that gun in your face. Each of these people are in my prayers and I pray that this guy is caught.

'J", you are correct. I have seen this man before around here somewhere. He may of had out of state tags but that does not mean nothing. I know I have seen him before.

You can tell from some of the comments that these people have never been involved in a robbery. I can tell you from experience that it is "NO" fun when you look up and you are looking down the barrel of a gun. To all of those involved, I'm glad you are okay and in time you will heal.

Nom, are you serious? So, it was more important to him that her customer service skills are on point, rather than her safety?! That's crazy.

Ever notice when you go to the bank the vault door is wide open but the pens are chained to the counter? The teller at this bank was fired by her manager for being caught on camera forgetting to ask the robber if he wanted to open a checking account.
