Madoff Arrives At North Carolina Prison

WITN News has learned that disgraced financier Bernard Madoff has been moved to a federal prison in Butner.

He arrived in the Granville County facility around 11: 15 a.m aboard a prison bus. Butner is about 30 miles north of Raleigh.

Federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Linda Thomas says Madoff arrived at the Butner facility Tuesday morning, after a brief stay at an Atlanta prison while in transit from a federal jail in New York City.

The 71-year-old Madoff was sentenced last month to a 150-year sentence after admitting he bilked thousands of investors out of billions of dollars in a massive Ponzi scheme.

Previous Story

A Bureau of Prisons Web site says that disgraced financier Bernard Madoff has been moved to a federal prison in Atlanta.

The site was updated early Tuesday to list Madoff's location as the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta. No further details were given, and a bureau spokeswoman declined comment early Tuesday.

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Monday that Madoff had left a New York lockup on his way to a North Carolina facility. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss prisoner transfers.

Animama, Bobby didn't say he had a love fest with Raleigh. He just said that WITN has a bad habit of getting their facts wrong, and that other news outlets like WRAL report happenings in Greenville better and with more accuracy than WITN does. It's not the first time someone has mentioned WITN's report first, edit later style, and it won't be the last.

Animama, where did I make a claim that Raleigh was better? I simply said that WRAL in Raleigh can cover the news better than the local Greenville station. And I'm in Greenville because I live here and I happen to like Greenville. And I'm an alumnus of the University.

WITN used the term "unload" for dog adoption, and "disgraced" for Madoff. Madoff may be disgraced as far as he is concerned, but he is a "convicted felon" in my book.

Since us, the taxpayers, are having to foot the bill for this sccammer; he should be forced to make license plates or hold down some type of job and pay restitution to the victims. I dont care if he makes 1.18 cents an hour...he has got a good 10-15 years left and maybe he could pay at least one of the people he scammed.

Why don't since the state is low on money have prisoners clean the highways and ditches and then they want be spending a whole lot of money on jobs that inmates can do. Also they should have prisoners cleaning church yards and communities and doing some constructive instead of sitting in a cell eating and wasting my tax dollars. Beside meeting bubba they have it better than the rest.
