There's a new protocol that Pitt County has created that's meant to help fight against sexual crimes and better comfort the victims.
Law enforcement, advocates, and people from the judicial system came together Tuesday in Greenville to sign a new sexual assault protocol called the Pitt County Sexual Assault Response Team. The main goal is to help provide services that ensure a transition from victim to survivor for every individual whose life is impacted by sexual violence.
Tracy Kennedy, a rape victim advocate, says, "What it means for all victims both men and women in Pitt County is that regardless of what zip code they live in if they report a sexual assault they will receive specialized services from law enforcement to medical to advocacy.
Kennedy says they hope the new protocol will help create a uniform way of reacting to sexual assault that really makes a difference.
