Police: Man Arrested For Weapons Of Mass Destruction

Jacksonville Police say they arrested a man for having weapons of mass destruction.

On Friday officers arrested Clay Stampley from a routine traffic stop. Police say Stampley was carrying a concealed weapon which turned out to be a sawed off shotgun.

After a search of a residence, police say they found another sawed off shot gun. Stampley is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Here is how the Jacksonville Police Department released the information to WITN:

Possession of Stolen Property, CCW
Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction
June 26, 2009

For two weeks, officers of the Jacksonville Police Department have received training in Robbery Suppression Techniques. The following is a prime example of the goal of the training. The officers were able to put the training to use and take several weapons off the streets and possibly solve numerous breaking and enterings.

At approximately 1050 P.M. on June 26th, an officer conducted a traffic stop for no tag light. While conducting the traffic stop it was discovered the passenger was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Onslow County Sheriff Department. Further investigation revealed the driver, Clay Stampley, had a concealed weapon in the vehicle. An arrest was made and the investigation continued. Further investigation revealed Mr. Stampley was in possession of a weapon of mass destruction. A consent search was conducted at an address on Marie St. At that location, several weapons were located including two sawed off shotguns. Also recovered were various stolen items. Several of the items were ones reported stolen in cases from the Onslow County Sheriff Department. The investigation is continuing at this time.

Clay Edward Stampley 1 count of Carry Concealed Weapon
2087 Haws Run Rd 1 count of Felony Possession of Stolen Goods

This is truly a sad story, the Criminal System just goes to any extent to trump up the most they can on their perps. Now I know the J-Ville PD is corrupt, I know that from personal experience when I was robbed and found my stuff in the Pawn & Gas and tried to get it back and had to call in Family to get any action at all (my cousin was Chief at the time). Whatever happened to this guy, did he get sent to Gitmo, a secret CIA camp or what?

A weapon of mass destruction is something like a B-52 Bomber with a full belly full of 500lbs bombs. Bombs away good bye city. Not some little sawed off stupid shot gun. Saddam, North Korea,Iran do not have WMD's Clay Stamply of Jacksonville,NC does?

A shotgun barrel must be 18" from the breech face to the end of the barrel. This includes the chamber. The only way you could count the choke tube is if it is SILVER soldered in or welded. It has to be PERMANENTLY ATTACHED to the barrel. No screw in or on choke tubes will count. If you want to cut a barrel back and be legal, the best way is to put a piece of wooden dowel down the barrel until it is against the breech face.Mark where the end of the barrel is at. Then pull it out and measure 18 1/2" from the end that was against the breech face. Then lay it against the outside of the barrel with the mark that was at the muzzle end of the barrel aligned with the muzzle. Then mark the barrel where the 181/2" mark is at on the dowel. The 1/2" is a safety margin to make absolutely sure you don't get it too short. It is a felony if you do.The reason for using the dowel is that some shotgun designs have the bolt face inside the barrel a ways. Pumps or autos with rotating bolt lockups mainly.
