Search Continues For Gunman Who Murdered Greenville Man

A man was shot to death inside a west Greenville convenience store early Saturday.

It happened at 514 Watauga Avenue between 1:15 and 1:30 a.m.

William Powell III died at PCMH after being shot several times in the Greenville Stop One convenience store.

The shooting happened four years after two other men were murdered near the location. Residents say they are fed up with the violence and want something done to stop it.

Police are still searching for the shooter and anyone with any information is asked to call authorities.

The North Carolina Department of Corrections website shows William Powell III with a criminal record dating back to 1997. He was convicted on drug charges, as well as possessing stolen goods. Powell served two months for the stolen goods conviction in 2005. According to the state website he received two infractions during that incarceration time, for disobeying an order and involvement with a gang.

"Call it like you see it" Let me tell you just because he went to prison one time does not mean nothing everybody makes mistakes and it takes a real person to learn from them. He recieved an infraction while in prison for gang involvement (sentence of 2 months). That still does not justify the situation was gang related (from what you stated). Like I said being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So now you call it like you see it. Regardless of what you say don't know him or his family so speak on what you know by first hand!!!!

Radical, what it will take to stop the violence is when all the violent people in the world have either killed each other off, or the world has been destroyed by nukes or a asteroid.

What will it take to stop the violence?...People, RAISE your children better! Children, stop trying to live like these stupid videos and dumb rap songs! It's all faked to sell records!! This man was shot down and it had nothing to do with a gang! He was on his way home like he should have been...some of you people are so stupid and blind that you don't see what's going on in front of you. The police do not want to investigate it any further whether it's for reasons because they are just lazy, don't want to spend the money to investigate, or just plain out are in support of the people whom are involved. An easy way to get out of this sort of investigating is to say that it's gang related! 1)Motive 2)opportunity 3)one evil justifies another!! This is their reasoning for murder of black people and other minorities out here! We need to take the wool off of our eyes and see that! If he were white, would it be a different story? Would the media have bought up his past record from YEARS ago???

Violence is everywhere you guys? And reguardly if a person is in a gang or not no one deserves to die at the hands of another person. This side of g-ville may be ruff but people still live there. BJ may have been in jail and may at one time belonged to a gang but he did not deserve to be murdered.

If you are involved with a gang, then you face a much higher chance of dying like this.Oh well, at least its one less gang member on the streets. No crooked lawyer will plea bargain him out of this.
