Corolla Wild Horse Euthanized After Hit By Vehicle

Authorities are looking for the driver of an all terrain vehicle they think struck a wild horse that had to be euthanized after its leg was broken on the North Carolina Outer Banks.

The horse named Spec was struck hard enough to break its left hind leg during
the night Friday or early Saturday. Karen McCalpin of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund says there were hoof prints and ATV tracks in the area and it looked like ATV riders chased the horse onto the beach.

A herd of wild horses lives in the Corolla area.

McCalpin says the horse tried to drag itself over sand dunes back to its home area but collapsed after about a mile.

To whom ever did this. I hope you live forever with the picture of this horse suffering and trying to drag itself home before dying. I'm not sure if there is anything you can ever do in this life, to makeup for this horrible deed. If this was a teen prank, and there was one individual that encouraged others to participate. The others should come forward to stop this evil demon, before he or she claims another victim.

Can't get away from redneck yahoos even in the most isolated places. What a shame.

Can you just imagine the pain this horse endured dragging itself almost a mile. This makes me so mad I can hardly stand it. I'd be willing to put up money for a reward to find out who chased this beautiful horse, hurt him and then left him to die alone and hurting. There is no punishment fit for this except death as these people are complete animals. How about it everybody? I'm going to call up the police station or Sheriff to see if we can donate money for a reward to make sure these people pay. Stay tuned. I'll get the information.

Why is it that something like this happens and people say stop driving on the beach. It might hurt some animals. This is their home not ours. How many animals lost their home when your house was built, or the mall you shop in. No one is more upset and angry over this than I am, but I can't see stopping people from driving on the beach. We need a stricter punishment for people who brake the law, not to stop the ones who abide by them.

I am emailing and stating that if a reward fund is set up that I pledge $100 toward the reward fund for information leading to the arrest of the driver(s)/rider(s). Imagine if every one who feels like we do sent an email pledging $20 or $50 (or more) and a reward could be funded . . . Sending the email will make you feel like there is something you can do.

When they find out who did it, they should chase them down and break their leg.

You can thank your congressman for this.

Like I have been saying for the past year,"Keep all motor vehicles off the beach." PERIOD. Just imagine all the other (creatures of nature) that is destroyed by idiots. This is their home. NO Trespassing..

Man I hate to see that happen. That was a terrible thing for those people to do. It was very cruel and hateful, and shows a cold heart right there. The horse never did a harmful thing to any of these humans, so why would they have wanted to do such a thing as this. There is no other reason than the fact that they are just plain evil. Vickie, instead of the local cowboys, how about those cowboys out in Texas or Colorado need to go after these creeps. That will be even tougher on them. I would like to see those individuals have a leg broke and then they would learn their lesson I feel like. Before anybody tells me that I should say that or it will come back to haunt me, I have suffered two broken legs as a human before, and even more injuries that have sent me to the hospital as a patient before a few times.

It is amazing to me riding down the beach and seeing these horses. It must have been some stupid teenager try to show off and now could be in serious trouble. This is what happend at Oregon Inlet, let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. I hope they catch whoever did this and they get an example made of them so maybe this won't happen again...
