POLICE: Driver Rams Police Car Twice Before Fleeing

A routine check on people sleeping in a car in a city park turned out to be anything but routine for a Wilmington police officer.

Police say when the officer got out to check the vehicle parked in Rankin Park Sunday morning the driver rammed the police car, then backed up again and struck it again as he was driving away.

Kareem Williams is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, driving during revocation and possession of a stolen car.

Williams and a passenger were nabbed after citizens directed another officer to the abandoned car. Police say the two men were found laying behind a trash dumpster in a nearby cemetery.
