Martin County Murder Victim Had Pending Charges

WITN News has learned the name of a teenager killed late Saturday night in Oak City.

A funeral home confirms that Travonn Barnes of Greenville died in the weekend shooting in Martin County. They expect Barnes' funeral to be held Saturday, though exact arrangements are still pending.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office has refused to release the name of the murder victim, nor the name of the other teen wounded in the shooting.

A state court web site says the 18-year-old Barnes had pending charges in Martin County for robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony breaking & entering and possession of stolen goods. It lists a court date of June 10th.

The Martin County clerk's office says Barnes had an Everetts Road, Williamston address listed on court documents.

To Anonymous, and just what one race would you happen to be talking about? I never said that the neighborhoods weren't bad. As a matter of fact I agree with that. But if you would take the time to read these other posts, instead of directly slandering mine, then you would see what i'm talking about. Who needs better interpretaion skills?

Anonymous from martin county, Jun 4, 2009 at 04:01 pm, I suggest first that you study the Bible concerning judging. Your interpretation is extremely inaccurate. Racial tensions are NOT causing this havoc. It has nothing to do with multiple races, only one. Do not attempt to shift the blame for this chaos away from the cultural rot in these neighborhoods on to the rest of us. Wake up, pretending the problem is caused by anything else only prevents finding a solution.

All of you people need to grow up, it is the racial tensions that are causing such havoc. Nobody deserves to have their life taken from them regardless of race, where they are from, how they were raised etc.. and for those of you that are so "christ abiding" you people are nothing but hypocrites, look at the judgements you guys are making, i seriously doubt that christ would agree with you.

Sorry Samantha, there are safe neighborhoods in this state. They are few and far between in eastern NC. Bath, Bear Grass, Hatteras Island, The northern banks, Chicod, Jamesville, Camden, Currituck and others come to mind. There are alot more safe areas in the western portion of the state for some reason. Try to get out more, avoid the rural slums and I think you will find many places where you would receive help and a positive attitude if you "break down side the road".

There are no KKK, Ayrian Nation or Skin Heads in Martin County. There are very few nationwide. Their numbers are but a tiny fraction of what the numbers for the Crips, Bloods, etc are. The KKK, AN and Skin heads are the most overblown phenomenon in America. Get real Anonymous (one who hides) of Jun 2 at 01:23PM, the real threat to American society is crips, bloods, etc and the wanabes who idolize them and the baseless godless subculture which spawned them.
