Police: Teen Rams Cop Car While Texting

Police were on the scene immediately when a Florida high school student accused of texting while driving collided with another vehicle.

She hit their car.

Tampa police say Katelyn Blaylock had ditched school and was driving with two friends Wednesday morning when apparently didn't see a red light and ran into a police car that was stopped at the intersection.

Blaylock was cited for careless driving. Police took all three teens back to school.

Chris: my point is banning phones isn't the answer, inforcing existing laws is. I don't trust anyone tailgating me, cops are humans too and add a distraction and anything can happen. Almost been ran off the road enough times by cops without there lights to know they can be idiots too. Kids under 18 cant talk on the phone by law anyway so that's covered. Been talking and txting on the road for 9 years now with no wrecks or tickets so it can be done.

obamanation, how many hours of driver training do you have? I expect that Officer's that wreck their vehicles due to looking at their computers is fairly SLIM to NONE. You can hide behind that notion if you wish, all you have to do is pull your head out of the sand to see what happens to people trying to text or talk while driving.. I certainly would rather trust a police officer with hours and hours of driver training than some punk 16 yr. old kid yapping on the cell phone and talking to her friends while ditching school!

Talk about bad luck. Don't know if it's illegal in Florida but now I'm sure it will be soon. It's time to embarrass these kids till they do what is right. How about having this student walk around school with a sign saying "Don't text while driving and skipping school!" I guess two wrongs really don't make a right.

Ditching school is wrong, texting while driving is worse, but Please; running into a police vehicle after the first two. Take her driving priviledge away for a year. As Ron White says, There ain't no cure for stupid'

Texting while driving has NOT been banned in NC yet, so dont get ahead of yourselves. Check www.ncleg.net for the progress. There are already laws that this could include, careless and reckless sounds like a good one. If i cant text and drive should i feel safe that a Police officer is tailgating me and on their laptop at the same time running my tag?

Texting has been banned in NC - now it is time to ban all use of cell phones while driving. I'm tired of driving near these people with cell phones sticking out of their ears, weaving all over the road.

At least the kid wasn't sexting, did the cop take the phone as evidence.
