Rapper Shoots Clerk With BB Gun In Attempt To Gain "Street Cred"

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a 21-year-old aspiring rapper robbed a Gainesville convenience store and shot a clerk with a BB gun to gain "street credibility."

Police say Steven Gilmore Jr. has confessed to the Friday night robbery. He also confessed to a restaurant robbery that occurred last week.

According to the Gainesville police, Gilmore shot the clerk in the temple with a BB gun during the robbery.

Gilmore is being held in the Alachua County jail on robbery and aggravated battery charges. According to the Gainesville Sun, a 16-year-old accomplice was also arrested.

It's time for leaders in The African American Community to denounce negative hip hop and the thug lifestyle. Children should be encouraged to be responsible adults and productive members of society. If you behave like an animal you should be caged like an animal.

This guy is lucky as so many people conceal carry nowadays that its a wonder that the clerk did not pull out a real gun or that another customer did not walk in. Idiot and future Darwin award winner. From my understanding of the law armed robbery is armed robbery so at least so whether or not it was a real gun or not its going to get him just as much time.

This guy would've felt pretty foolish if the clerk had pulled a REAL gun on him in response.

Sam: I think Chris was trying to say that Gilmore is a dorky name and would need more credibility than a BB gun robbery to strike fear with such a name. Maybe if he had a name like Roselli, Lesnar, or Stalone he could get by with less street cred.

It's bad enough to rob someone and shoot them, but for the reason for street credibility is what should put him behind bars for life, no matter if the victim is dead or living. If it was my kid doing this, I would disown the kid and he/she would get NOTHING inherited from me. Chris, just cause of someones name is Gilmore does not mean anything else except for their bloodline. I know a Gilmore from back home who is a very good guy, religious, educated, and very smart. Not all Gilmores are the way you assumed. Paul, if you have a problem with this article being on WITN, how about then don't look at it. It's that easy. Some people want to see this and know what goes on in ALL of America, not just Eastern North Carolina. This is coming from someone who has about as much pride in being born and raised in Eastern North Carolina and in the 252 area code, as anybody does. Sometimes I wonder if the pride gets carried too far, but I typically would say no.
