Police: Girl, Age 12, Shot Father In Head

Police say a 12-year-old suburban Houston girl fatally shot her father in the back of the head, possibly while he was sleeping.

Katy Assistant Police Chief Tim Tyler says a relative of 38-year-old Mark A. Nelson called 911 and summoned officers to the home Wednesday morning.

Officers found Nelson lying on his side in the master bedroom, shot once in the back of the head. Tyler told the Houston Chronicle that Nelson worked nights and may have been trying to sleep. He says Nelson was alone with his daughter when he was shot.

Nelson died Wednesday night at a hospital. His daughter was charged with aggravated assault before he died.

Neighbor Gabrielle Young told the newspaper there had been tension between the girl and her father.

I got the news for you and it's nowhere near your filthy underwear. God didn't make this girl do this. If you would read your Bible you would know that God has given us free will to do right or wrong. Jesus does love the little children, but he doesn't think for them either. It's all in the plan, man. The only thing in your pants is your empty hand.

We DO NOT NEED stricter gun control. We need to find out why this child decided to take this step. I'm sure the father is not innocent either. We need stricter laws that govern how poorly some parents treat their children. You don't know what has happened in this girl's life to make her turn to murder. I shutter to think what it could be.

Another example of why we need stricter gun control.

I got an idea everyone. Let's pray and ask the holy spirit to help us. Oh Lord you are my savior. God, why do things happen that are like this? Jesus is suppose to love the little children. Why would you want to bring one in this world just to take a life? I mean you know their future. You are all knowing. If you knew this one was going to commit murder why didn't you stop her? Oh that's right.. I am i got the news I think rationally.... Gods NOT real!

When I was growing up (long time ago) kids did not bring guns to school for fear of having the skin striped from their butt. We also did not play video games where you get points by killing someone or something (why not points for saving a life). We learned to read and write, not text message. We had chores. We had two parents. When you did do something wrong all hell broke loose. And then there is a kid that is just evil. When kids don't get their way now a day, they feel they have been wronged (not that they are being corrected). Now parents try to give their kids any and everything they want, except what they really want, love and attention(not money). What does a kid think when his/her single mother/father shackes up with another man/woman. I just thank God that I grew up when I did and have no children to raise in this time.

She is 12. What kind of tension could a 12 year old have that would make her shoot her dad. If things were this bad she really should have told another family member or teacher or just ran away from home. She does need to pay for what she has done. All her life she will regret this happening but a regular prison, in my humble opinion, is not the place for her. SHe is a child and something has gone lacking in her early life for this to have happened. By the way, where is the mother in all this? Did she not know of the tension between the child and her dad?

me2... I agree with you. We can't jump to conclusions about what happened there. The only question I have is, Where is the mother? Is there a mother still around? Whose gun was it? I guess I had more than one question, but still they are legitimate to ask.

I hope they find the reason behind all that, I am sure neither of them is innocent. It takes a lot for something like that to happen.
