A Tennessee man has been sentenced to death for raping and strangling a South Carolina college student with her own bikini top.
The sentence came hours after Jerry Buck Inman asked to be put to death for the crime because he was too violent to be rehabilitated in prison.
Inman showed no reaction Wednesday when a judge sentenced him to
death for killing 20-year-old Tiffany Marie Souers. Inman then apologized to the family of the slain woman.
Inman's attorneys had argued their client should receive life in prison because he suffers from psychological problems and feels extreme guilt for his crimes.
Inman pleaded guilty last year to raping and strangling the engineering student from Ladue, Mo., in her off-campus apartment in May 2006.
