J.H. Rose High School Football Players Deal With Another Player Death

For the second time in less than a year, the football team of J.H. Rose High School is forced to cope with the death of a teammate.

J.H. Rose football player, Tony Turnage, was shot and killed early Friday morning after police say he was involved in a robbery with three other young men.

Tragedy hits the Rampants once again as it was just last fall that Jaquan Waller died from head injuries he suffered in practice then during a football game.

For one teammate and close friend, he calls Turnage a jokester and a good guy to be around, he says just don't call Turnage a thug.

Head football Coach Tod Lipe says the team had a meeting Monday morning to help players cope with Turnage's death and talk about the consequences that come from making bad decisions.

I am friends with sprouse. we went to school together, and he is not a bad guy. those thugs had it coming. I wouldnt stand around and let somebody rob me and get away with it. it is sad to see somebody die but oh well. he shouldnt have been in that situation.

the kid that shot the other should get jail time for having drugs. the kid that got shot deserved it because he was robbing somebody for the drugs and we dont need people like that in the world anyways. Stuff like this just makes our city look ghetto and ignorant.

To the kids at J.H.Rose High School continue to keep your heads up even though some people are going to continue to label you. But don't worry about that because there are still some great doctors, lawyers, pro football/basketball players, etc. at this school still!!So hold your head up HIGH!!

If someone points a gun at you after you just robbed them and beat the crap out of them... THAT'S SLEF DEFENSE!

Where was the kids parents when all this was happening? I feel sorry for anyone who loses a child my heart does go out to them, but still the question remains why didn't the parents keep a closer watch on them. I think parents need to take better care of the children and make sure they stay out of trouble and know their whereabouts at all times. May God bless the family.

It is ashame that Tony was killed My heart goes out to his family and friends. But that does not excuse the fact that these kids were committing a crime. We should stop standing up for people who feel that they can go and do whatever to anyone and get away with it. I'm sure these kids have learned an awful lot but it is my experience with kids just like this who end up not getting into trouble for their behavior and turn around and do some of the same things because they think that they are invincible. I hope the other three kids get the punishment that will enable them to understand that this country will not allow that type of behavior.

You people are CRAZY! It's funny how some of you are so quick to classify Turnage as a thug but not Sprouse...hmmmmm. Yes, it is illegal to rob people, it is also illegal to sell drugs, and guess what... it's also illegal to shoot someone in the back while they are running down the street no matter what they have just done. So if you classify Turnage as a thug then let's please classify Sprouse as one also. And what about Conlan, who they now say masterminded this whole thing? It says they all knew each other right? So I'm sure that they all engaged in some of the same illegal behaviors. Hey Sprouse was older, so since he's such a stand up guy who some of you act like deserves a reward, why wasn't he out here trying to set a better example for these young guys. It's guys like him who are PART of the reason for the state of our youth. So let's not act like he's such an upstanding citizen. My heart goes out to all of these guys and their families because 6 young lives have been ruined!

Who cares if they had left. I have a new sign for property owners, Warning, trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again. Once you break the property line, it should not matter.
