POLICE: Father Arrested For Shooting Pregnant Mother

The father two unborn babies, killed after their pregnant mother was shot, has now been charged in that shooting.

Kinston police say Simeon Meadows is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

The victim, Whitney Jones, was five months pregnant when she was shot in the stomach late Friday night or Saturday morning at Simon Bright Apartments. In North Carolina murder charges cannot be brought when the victim is an unborn child.

Meadows is in jail on a $50,000 bond.

Kinston police say a pregnant woman who was shot over the weekend has lost her unborn boys.

Police say Whitney Jones was shot in the stomach late Friday night or early Saturday morning. The woman was almost 5 months pregnant with twins.

Major Greg Thompson says the 18-year-old was shot in the stomach during a domestic dispute. Thompson says they hope to have an arrest by the end of the day.

Whitney was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Previous Story

Kinston Police have released few details, but we do know an 18 year-old pregnant woman was shot and airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital on Saturday.

We haven't been able to confirm from police why the teen was shot but neighbors believe they know exactly what happened.

Friends of 18 year-old Whitney Jones would not talk on camera, but they did say she only lived in the Simon Bright section of Kinston for 3 days.

Her roommate said she was pregnant with twins.

Neighbors say Jones got into a fight with someone she knew.

Patricia Wahinya, who lives a few apartments down told WITN, "(She) was assaulted in her apartment and a gunshot went off and she got shot in her side and two babies died in the womb."

Tanita Simpler, another resident says, "people need to watch out for what they do because she was pregnant she was carrying twins and that's sad."

People who live in this area like Simpler says she's had enough with the gun violence in her neighborhood. She says its time for a change.

"Drama is not the way to live. Try to live a better life and do better for yourself and lookout for the kids because we do have kids running around the area and people don't have respect for the kids,"
says Simpler.

Others say there have been several shootings in recent months and now there done.

Wahinya says, " oh I'm definitely leaving because I can't. I mean all of a sudden its like one, two, three no way to close to home."

Kinston Police say additional information may be available tomorrow when the lead investigator on this case comes back in.

We understand from the roommate that Jones is going to be okay physically.

The first thing we can do is contact our senators and governor. I for one spent time yesterday and went to Richard Burr's website and vented to him about this. I know for one he is pro-life so it may make a difference. As for Bev Perdue I do not know but I also wrote her a letter also by email and I asked her would she not do this for the sake of her own child. I lost five babies to miscarriage and then the Lord heard my prayer and opened up my womb on the sixth child and I now have a beautiful 8 month old. We need change people and it starts with us and making a shout out!

Why is it that the Marine that killed the the pregnant lady is charged with murder, but this man is not? What is the difference? Or was the marine not charged with the murder of the child? Im confused. This is such a sad event and my heart goes out to the mother of the unborn twins.

Sick world I'll tell you! I would guess that this guy in the slammer must have been the father. This is an indirect version of abortion, PLUS Attempted Murder which was not slapped to his record, which is a crying shame shame shame. I thought this nation was "ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL." With a president that disagrees with the good book when it comes to abortion, it sounds like to me that this nation will be called the USA, The United States of Abortions. To Jim Bob, I can agree with your last sentence there BTW. I have spent years and have several more years to come to try to be as successful as possible, no matter what it takes. My wife and I have enough self respect to tell each other that we would not ever plan to have any children if they were to ever have to deal with these conditions. At this rate, you watch out, 90% of this United States nation will be a third world dump by the year 2040. I will guarantee that.

What??????? He cant be charged with murder b/c NC doesnt recognize the babies as humans until they take a breath? They had a beating heart, they moved on their own, they had faces, limbs, etc. We might can start with our laws in NC but we also need to take this to DC...oh wait, Nobama believes in partial birth abortion so there's no way he'd allow a change in our laws b/c he doesnt believe these are humans either. People hooped and hollered to get Nobama into office without any regard whatsoever to his stand on things such as abortion & the such. I know this isnt about abortion but with his views as they stand now, we'll never be able to change the laws of our COUNTRY. ANYTIME a baby is killed, whether in the womb or not, the punishment should be more than $50k...and this kid killed 2 BABIES. I'm just appalled! Jim Bob, what kind of FATHER would sign away their rights? What you're referring to is nothing more than a sperm donor...not a REAL FATHER!!!!!

Yes laws need to be changed for killing an unborn child. There are also other laws that need changing. If a single mother wants to give up a newborn she can drop the newborn off at several safe spots and no questions asked. If a father wants nothing to do with a newborn he has no options. He will be tracked down and made to support the child for 18 years. How is this fair? If he could sign away his rights then this would not happen nearly as much. Give the fathers the same rights as mothers!

How do we help change the law that he can't be charged with murder of the unborn children.... I want to know where to begin!!!! I know nothing of the laws concerning this.

There is no difference between the abortionist and Meadows. Both get away with stopping a beating heart under existing law. Planned parenthood does the same thing everyday without a gun and it is paid for by your tax dollars. Prolife. 2012. Vote for change. Wake up America. Look around.

We need to rise up people about NC not charging these people with murder if they kill an unborn child! This is a human being and let me tell you that God sees it that way. We need to flood our senators and the governor with phone calls and emails to see that legislation is passed in this state to make sure these people get charged with murder! This guy and Laurean need to be charged with two murders period!

He can't be charged for killing these babies because they weren't born yet????!!!!! If he had shot a pregnant dog and she lost her puppies, they wouldn't let out on bail!

I don't know why this young man did what he did. There's never any excuse for what he did to her and those babies. I think it is a crying shame that the state of North Carolina does not recognize them as human beings, they have the same body parts as we do, but they are just not strong enough yet to make it in this cruel world. To give him a $50,000 dollar bond is just unreal. I have heard of people getting more than that for much lesser crimes. He tried to kill this young lady and succeeded killing his on flesh and blood. I am ampoule. We as the citizens of North Carolina must see that this law is changed. Our unborn babies are being treated as if they don’t matter, what’s next our senior adults that get weak and can’t take care of themselves anymore. Well that’s opens another can of worms. This young lady will need our prayers. We must step up to the plate and protect those who can’t protect themselves. May God Bless these beautiful babies. They're with God now.
